As any entrepreneur and business person knows, it’s not so much what you know but who you know that makes the difference. And so I make every effort to grow my connections and meet people I admire in the food industry. On Monday I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of Martin Chiffers company for a short time over a very well presented coffee at Cordon Bleu where he had been part of a judging panel that day.
Martin is best known for his astoundingly beautiful and delicious sweet creations with chocolate, pulled sugar and pastry. I discovered he is quite an entrepreneur with fingers in lots of pies, one of them being food photography, so you can imagine we had lots to talk about and found a number of other things in common too. However I am getting side tracked, what I really wanted to highlight to you today is the work that Martin is doing in Asia bringing the traditional simple English staples we love to the Eastern continents. Martin is working with his team to delight them with Cornish pasties and scones. And they are going absolutely mad for them! Martin told me that in Japan they were queuing hours for just one scone. I also found this video he posted on YouTube, watch as they actually run for the pasties!

Martin is also currently working on a high end self published cookbook featuring his photography of desserts from hotels he has worked with. I’ll be keeping you posted on news pending the release and maybe even a sneak peak if he is willing. Stay tuned….
